Morgan Sports Car News from Malvern England
Apr 12th
2009, the Centenary year of the Morgan Motor Company was always going to be a busy one, and so it proved. Events throughout the year, included a visit to the factory by the Princess Royal, a mass Centenary factory drive away of new cars, the opening of the new Morgan Visitors Centre and Museum, plus featured Marque displays at Villa d’Este, Goodwood Festival of Speed and Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. As if that wasn’t enough, over 3200 Morgans gathered from 23 countries worldwide in August to celebrate the 100th Birthday at the Cheltenham Racecourse. Concerts, a Gala Dinner for 1000 guests and then a finale Proms in the Park concert with the English Symphony Orchestra and firework display wrapped up a weekend to remember.
2010 looks to be just as successful, with the factory starting production of the new Aero SuperSports, and introducing the new Euro V Roadster Sport. Production has increased to try and meet demand, with nearly 800 vehicles planned for this year – to be the largest ever number of Morgans produced in one year.
Overview of the Classic Morgan Sports Car Range
Mar 31st
The Morgan range of contemporary sports cars holds true to Morgan philosophy – pure, elegant, light and fast.
Using the best quality materials, aluminium, ash and leather, every Morgan is created with passion, care and dedication by the craftsmen and women at the small factory in the picturesque Malvern Hills.
Incorporating the most modern drivetrain technology, a Morgan will not only perform, but deliver low running costs and low carbon emissions too.
The 4/4 Sport takes purity to a new level. A back to basics car, the elegance is in the simplicity.
Available in a choice of 8 colours and a Saddle brown leather interior as standard, the 4/4 Sport has been designed to appeal to all ages as the iconic Sports Car.
With its peppy 1.6 litre 110 Bhp engine and weighing in at under 800Kg, the 4/4 Sport delivers fun in abundance. Carbon emissions of just 139g/km make this the lowest emitting sports car in the world. The perfect balance between tradition and modernity without the smallest compromise.
If it’s more performance you desire, the Morgan Plus 4’s lightweight hand-crafted body still follows the flowing lines of the original, but these days it’s driven by the latest generation Ford 2.0 litre Duratec 145 Bhp four cylinder engine. This high power lightweight car delivers 0-62 in 7.3 seconds, and an amazing ability to put in fast averages thanks to its balance and power delivery.
The Morgan 4 seater has always been a well kept secret, despite being in production for over 70 years. Available as either a 2.0 litre Plus 4 or 220 Bhp 3.0 litre V6 Roadster, this model adds a new dimension to Morgan ownership, and with just one 4 seater rolling out each week, exclusivity is guaranteed.
Two generous rear seats fold forward to give a large load area. Child seats can be fitted to ensure that the whole family whatever age can enjoy the delights of open air Morgan motoring.
The ultimate development of the traditional line is the smooth, powerful 3.0 V6 Roadster. Weighing only 940 Kg, the 220 Bhp Roadster sprints to 60 mph in around 5 seconds, yet still delivers co2 emissions of just 225 g/km. A very low figure for supercar performance. New for 2010 is the Roadster Sport, which like its 4/4 sibling comes in a standard specification available in 8 colours, albeit with a much higher level of standard specification.
Morgan build cars for people who want a highly individual sports car that’s fun to drive. Although the Classic Range has been shaped by a long heritage, the emphasis now is on modern use, environmental considerations and fuel efficiency.
For more information on the Classic Morgan range, you can visit the Morgan Motor Company and for discussion and to become part of the enthusiasts community, visit Talk Morgan.

Morgan Aero SuperSports – the latest limited production Morgan sports car
Mar 27th
Following in the footsteps of the instantly collectable Morgan Aeromax, Morgan Motor Company introduced the Aero SuperSports at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. As of February 2010, Morgan are proud to announce that over half of the 200 limited production run of SuperSports have already been sold.
Innovations include the use of high tech super formed aluminium panels for the entire body. This process allows the most complex of shapes to be made in aluminium which are then fitted by hand over a traditional ash frame. Beautifully detailed inside, the coachbuilt ash frame proves that construction of the Morgan Aero SuperSports remains true to Morgan philosophy. Using this unique mix of technology and high quality materials, the car is assembled with care and dedication by the craftsman and women in Malvern. This method of construction offers a minimum of carbon emissions and maximum sustainability.
The body is bolted to the stiff yet lightweight AeroMax chassis which is fitted with the 367hp 4.8 litre BMW V8 engine. This gives SuperSports performance to match its name. For the first time a Morgan comes with an automatic gearbox as standard. The latest ZF 6HP 26 gearbox gives the fastest change in the world and endows the automatic with better acceleration and fuel economy than the manual thanks to its lock up clutch, low power loss and instant change characteristics. It also delivers lower CO2 emissions, 260 g/km, a figure not normally associated with a 0-62 mph (100 kph) capability of just 4.2 seconds and a top speed in excess of 170mph.
Reassurance and security are provided by Electronic Brake Distribution, cruise control, ABS and Siemens electronic airbags.
The technically advanced engine and lightweight construction give the best of all worlds – performance, economy and low emissions, yet still with all of the safety systems one would expect in a modern performance car.
Morgan believes that with the Aero SuperSports it leads the way in exclusive bespoke low volume car construction. The production techniques use quality raw materials and advanced technologies that are not available to Morgan’s competitors in the world of luxury car production. Owners of the Morgan Aero SuperSports will be joining a very exclusive Club with a unique opportunity to share their motoring dreams.
A selection of photographs of this wonderful Morgan limited edition sports car can be found at the excellent resource, of information on all the Morgan cars, Talk Morgan.
2010 Official Photos of the Morgan 4/4 Sports – what a beauty and it is ‘green’ as well!
Mar 26th
The latest official photos of the Morgan 4/4 Sports have been added to Talk Morgan. The baby of the Morgan Sport series looks stunning in the Sports Grey paint and sporting the Saddle Brown leather interior; however, what is perhaps as impressive are the Morgans environmental, aka green, credentials.
In a study conducted by by Paul Nieuwenhuis & Peter Wells on behalf of Cardiff University, that measured carbon dioxide output, toxic emissions, and the consumption of raw energy and resources during production, based on the Environmental Rating for Vehicles (ERV), the Morgan sports car ranked near the top of the heap, surpassed only by the Smart Car. On a scale of two to 60, the Morgan 4/4 was given 24 points which is the same as a Toyota Prius.
“The low weight helps Morgan cars achieve relatively low fuel consumption and as a result relatively low levels of toxic emissions (carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, NOx and particulates) and CO2 emissions (164g/km for the 4/4 1800 – which is around the EU average for all cars),” quoted from “Why Morgans are Green” by Paul Nieuwenhuis & Peter Wells
You can read the full report on the Morgan Motor Company web site and it really is a worthy read. What a wonderful thought that you can motor past a Toyota Prius in the knowledge that your quintessentially British sports car is less harmful to the environment.
