The years since joining Morgan Motor Company, straight from university, must have been a blur for Matt Humphries. From the iconic Morgan AeroMax to the reborn Morgan Three Wheeler, Matt, and the wonderful creative team he built around him, have made a lasting impact on MMC. Morgan Car News have had the pleasure of meeting Matt on various occasions and whilst his passion for automotive design is apparent, it isn’t a challenge to see that a desire to turn his skills toward other luxury products is bubbling just beneath the surface. His foray away from automotive design came in the form of a Lonville watch; therefore, it didn’t come as a surprise to MCN when the press release for Matt’s new company, Matthew Humphries Design, crossed our desk: -
Matthew Humphries Design is open for business
Matthew Humphries Design and Morgan Design join forces to develop future Morgan sports cars and bespoke one off vehicles.
Morgan Design has obtained the services of Matthew Humphries Design for future vehicle design and development projects. This collaboration extends the seven year working relationship between Matt Humphries, the former chief designer of Morgan cars, and Morgan Motor Company.
The Morgan Design team was assembled by Matt and under his guidance has successfully evolved Morgan into a design-led company. The team specialises in a tremendously wide variety of design applications including product and merchandising, graphics, advertisements, brochures, exhibition design and of course vehicle body and interior design. Amongst the team’s many achievements Morgan Design has defined strong new identities for both Morgan Motor Company and the Morgan 3 Wheeler Ltd.

Morgan Design led by Matt has been responsible for a range of concept and production cars. These include the Morgan Aeromax, LifeCar, Aero SuperSports, EvaGT, the new Morgan 3 Wheeler and constant visual improvements to the Classic range of cars.
Newly established Matthew Humphries Design, fuelled by Matt’s extensive experience, offers customers a bespoke design service. MHD specialises in automotive, brand and product design that exudes a strong British, hand crafted and unique style.

The second weekend of September saw the annual Morgan Aero Club meet take place in St Tropez, France. The gathering of enthusiastic Morgan owners converged on the South of France in a selection of Aero models: every variant of Aero 8 (from Series 1 to 4), the Aeromax and the Aero SuperSports, from locations as varied as England, Austria, Switzerland and the host country France. Participants enjoyed warm sunny weather, the excellent hotel Château de la Messardiere, an exhilarating drive in the hills above the Côte d’Azur and wonderful food from beginning to end. Photos of this event can be found on the enthusiasts forum for Morgan sports cars, Talk Morgan.
A superb time was had by MSCC & Talk Morgan members at the 2010 Le Mans Classic; from parade laps of the 8-mile Circuit de la Sarthe to watching the classic cars race through the night, the event held over July 9th, 10th and 11th was a resounding success. For a selection of photos, taken by the members of Talk Morgan (which include photos of a variety of classic Morgans, the new Aero SuperSports, the Aeromax, classic racing cars and other cars at Classic Le Mans), you can follow these links: LMC Photos One, Two, Three and Four.
We thought it was about time we posted some of the best videos produced about Morgan cars. This one is possibly the best video review of the limited production run (100 made for customers) Morgan Aeromax sports car. This video, and the accompanying article, was produced by Drivers Republic, with the assistance of Talk Morgan, in May of 2008. So, without further ado, for your viewing pleasure…
“Dimitri Enjalbert and Johan-Boris Scheier celebrated the maiden win for the AutoGT Racing Morgan Super Sport in the opening round of the FIA GT3 European Championship at Silverstone. Starting from pole position Enjelbert briefly lost the lead but bounced back to hold the advantage until Scheier came under pressure late in the race from the Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS of Christopher Haase. The German swept into the lead on lap 22, but a technical problem forced the Audi into the pits to retire, promoting Scheier back into the lead, which he held until the flag.” – quoted from the FIA GT3 site.
More information, videos of the GT3 race at Silverstone and photos of the Morgan Super Sport and drivers can be found at Talk Morgan.
In a communication with Morgan car forum, Talk Morgan, on April 16th 2009, Mr. Charles Morgan revealed some new tantalising details about the new limited edition Morgan. Based on the Aeromax, the Aeromax 2 (or Aeromax Super Sport as some are speculating it will be called) will be latest model from the artisans at the Morgan factory in Malvern Link. Mr. Morgan had the following to say: -
“…the car will be at Villa d’Este next week (24th – 26th of April 2009) so all our fans have not got too long to wait!
The new car is without doubt the most beautiful Morgan ever built.
I also like the new aerodynamics of the GT3 car very much but the production car is so much more elegant. Is that a bit of a giveaway?”
More to follow as this story develops!
Photos of the 2009 Morgan Aero Super Sport GT3 car have appeared on the FIA GT3 web site. Taken by British photographer, Nick Little, they show the beautiful new Morgan GT3 testing at Monteblanco in Spain. These photos can be viewed here.
Digital publication, Drivers Republic, have driven and reviewed the stunning, limited production, Morgan Aeromax. The feature length article includes a wonderful review by ex-EVO contributor Richard Meaden and some fabulous photographs of the most recent model to be born at the Morgan factory in Malvern Link.
It really is worth a look for any enthusiasts of the Morgan Motor Company.
This post contains photographs from the Morgan Motor Company stand at the Geneva Auto Show 2008. Vehicles on show at the 78th International Auto Salon were: the Morgan Aeromax (which is part of a limited production run of only 100 cars), the hydrogen fueled Morgan LIFECar, the new for 2008 Morgan 4/4 Sport 1.6, the Morgan Aero 8 4.8 automatic, V6 Roadster and Plus 4 Seater from the Classic range.
The Morgan Motor Company has released the brochure for their 2008 limited edition Morgan Aeromax. Comprised of 12 pages (including the front and rear cover), the literature details technical specifications of the coupe, optional extras as well as providing colour swatches of the 11 ‘recommended’ exterior colours, 5 interior leathers and 3 wood trims.
Such was the interest surrounding this unique design that it was decided, with the kind permission of its owner, to make a limited production run of 100 cars, all of which were sold within just a few weeks of its announcement.
Following a two year intense period of production development, and a number of minor improvements to the overall design, the first customer AeroMax is shortly to be delivered.
No expense has been spared in ensuring that the production quality mirrors expectations. Innovations include a world first, the use of high tech super formed aluminium panels for the entire body.
This process allows the most complex of shapes to be made in aluminium which are then fitted over a traditional ash frame. More >
